Teaching Students to Ask Their Own Questions

The Question Formulation Technique- 6 steps

Step 1: Teachers Design a Question Focus

Step 2: Students Produce Questions

The rule here is for students to create as many questions as possible write down all questions, do not stop to answer, discuss, judge or reflect on the questions being written down.

Step 3: Students Improve Their Questions

Teacher defines open and closed sentences. Categorize the questions that were created. Change an open question to a closed and vice versa.

Step 4: Students Prioritize Their Questions.

Step 5: Students and Teachers Decide on Next Steps

Step 6: Students Reflect on What They Have Learned.
